לומדי מסביר

לומדי כאן: מצלמים את הרגע בעבר. מה היה באמצע כשהצילום נלקח? זה ה-Past continuous. מה קרה ברגע שנכנס לתמונה? Past simple.

הצורה: was/were + verb-ing

Past continuous מתאר פעולה או מצב שהיו באמצע, בהתהוות, סביב זמן מסוים בעבר. הצורה: was או were ואחריו הפועל עם ing. I, he, she, it הולכים עם was, ו-you, we, they הולכים עם were. בשלילה מוסיפים not אחרי was/were: wasn't, weren't. דוגמה: Something strange happened yesterday. I suddenly noticed that my computer wasn't working. המחשב היה באמצע מצב של "לא עובד" ברגע שהבחנתי.

שני דברים שקרו באותו זמן (כיתות ח'–ט')

משתמשים ב-Past continuous כדי לספר על יותר מפעולה אחת שהתרחשו יחד. מחברים אותן עם and, while או when. דוגמאות: Yesterday morning, Yasmin was playing basketball and Dan was kicking the soccer ball in the park. Yael wasn't listening when I was telling her about my meeting with Jonathan. בשני המקרים שתי הפעולות נמשכו באותו זמן. אפשר גם משפט שלילי, כמו בדוגמה עם Yael.

אירוע ברקע (כיתות ח'–ט')

Past continuous מתאר גם מה שהיה קורה ברקע כשאירוע אחר התרחש. דוגמאות: Ibrahim decided to paint his room. He was climbing the ladder when someone knocked on his door. While my dad was checking in to the hotel, my mum parked the car. הפעולה הרקע (was climbing, was checking in) ארוכה, ואחריה או לצידה אירוע מסוים. when ו-while מחברות ביניהם.

ההבדל מ-Past simple

Past simple מספר על פעולה שנגמרה: He climbed the ladder. Past continuous מראה פעולה שהייתה באמצע: He was climbing the ladder. במשפט עם הרקע, הפעולה הארוכה היא ב-Past continuous והאירוע שנכנס אליה ב-Past simple, כמו ב-knocked בדוגמה למעלה. הקפידו על סימן ing: צורה כמו "He was climb" אינה נכונה.

לשים לב למילים שמסמנות זמן

Past continuous מופיע לעתים קרובות עם ביטוי של רגע מסוים בעבר, כמו at eight o'clock last night, או עם מילה שמחברת שני אירועים, כמו while ו-when. בשני המקרים אפשר להתחיל במשפט עם המילה המקשרת, ואז לשים פסיק, כמו ב-While my dad was checking in to the hotel, my mum parked the car. אם המשפט מתחיל בפעולה, אין צורך בפסיק: He was climbing the ladder when someone knocked on his door.

Complete with the Past continuous: At eight o'clock last night, my brother ___ (play) a computer game.

  1. הנושא my brother הוא he, ולכן משתמשים ב-was.
  2. מוסיפים ing לפועל play: playing.
  3. המשפט מתאר פעולה שהייתה באמצע סביב זמן מסוים בעבר.

תשובה: At eight o'clock last night, my brother was playing a computer game.

Make the sentence negative: Yael was listening when I was telling her about my meeting.

  1. שמים not אחרי was של הפועל הראשון: wasn't listening.
  2. החלק השני, when I was telling her, נשאר כמו שהוא.

תשובה: Yael wasn't listening when I was telling her about my meeting.

Connect the two actions with while: My dad was checking in to the hotel. My mum parked the car.

  1. מציבים while לפני הפעולה שנמשכה ברקע: While my dad was checking in.
  2. מוסיפים פסיק ואחריו האירוע השני.
  3. האירוע הרקע ב-Past continuous, והאירוע הקצר ב-Past simple.

תשובה: While my dad was checking in to the hotel, my mum parked the car.

Combine with when: Ibrahim was climbing the ladder. Someone knocked on his door.

  1. הפעולה הארוכה ברקע היא was climbing, ולכן Past continuous.
  2. האירוע הקצר שנכנס אליה הוא knocked, ולכן Past simple.
  3. מחברים עם when: Ibrahim was climbing the ladder when someone knocked on his door.

תשובה: Ibrahim was climbing the ladder when someone knocked on his door.

לזכירה

  • Past continuous: was/were + verb-ing. I/he/she/it - was, you/we/they - were.
  • שלילה: wasn't / weren't + verb-ing. I wasn't working.
  • משתמשים בו לפעולה או מצב באמצע סביב זמן מסוים בעבר.
  • בכיתות ח'–ט': שני דברים בו-זמנית (and / while) ופעולת רקע לאירוע אחר (when / while).
  • לא לשכוח ing אחרי was/were.
