לומדי כאן: הזמן "עבר" בפסוקית ה-if הוא רחוק מהמציאות, לא רחוק בזמן. כשאתם מדמיינים משהו, שימו Past simple אחרי if ו-would בתוצאה. דוגמה לבדיקה מהירה: אם המשפט מתאר משהו שאפשר שיקרה מחר באמת, זה תנאי ראשון. אם הוא מתאר משהו שאין סיכוי גדול שיקרה, או שלא נכון עכשיו, זה תנאי שני. משפט כמו If I had a car, I would drive to the beach אומר שאין לי מכונית כרגע.

מצב מדומיין

תנאי שני (second conditional) מדבר על מצב שאינו אמיתי עכשיו, או לא סביר שיקרה, ומה היה קורה בו. הוא נלמד ברמות 4 ו-5 יחידות. ברמת 3 יחידות אין לו תיאור. התבנית: If + Past simple (או were), would + פועל בסיסי. דוגמאות: If I had more time, I would learn the guitar. If she were taller, she would play basketball. הפועל had הוא Past simple, אבל הכוונה היא להווה או לעתיד, לא לעבר: אני לא יכול ללמוד עכשיו כי אין לי זמן.

מה זה would

would הוא הצורה שבה משתמשים כשהתוצאה דמיונית. התוכנית מציינת: Note: Modal verb has future-in-the-past meaning. כלומר would נחשב כצורת העבר של will, והזמן "העבר" בפסוקית ה-if מסמן שהמצב אינו אמיתי. אחרי would בא פועל בבסיס, בלי to ובלי s. קיצור נפוץ: I'd, you'd, he'd. הצורה השלילית: wouldn't.

If I were you: were לכל הנושאים

אחרי if אפשר להשתמש ב-were לכל הנושאים, גם I, he, she ו-it: If I were you, I would consult an expert on how to make a financial investment. If the weather were better, we would go out. הביטוי If I were you נפוץ במיוחד כשנותנים עצה.

עצה ודעה

תנאי שני מתאים לעצה ולדעה. דוגמה מהתוכנית: If I were you, I would consult an expert on how to make a financial investment. Maybe it would be possible if you shared the information with other investors. הפסוקית if you shared היא Past simple, והתוצאה היא it would be possible. ההבדל מתנאי ראשון: בתנאי ראשון (If you share, it will be possible) התוצאה סבירה; בתנאי שני היא דמיונית או פחות סבירה.

בדיקה לפני שכותבים

בודקים: פסוקית ה-if ב-Past simple או ב-were, והתוצאה ב-would + בסיס. אסור ש-would יופיע אחרי if בפסוקית ה-if. שגוי: If I would have time. נכון: If I had time. ובמשפט עצה כותבים If I were you.

דוגמאות פתורות

Complete: If I ___ (have) more time, I ___ (learn) the guitar.

  1. המצב מדומיין, ולכן Past simple אחרי if: had.
  2. התוצאה: would + בסיס: would learn.
